This is for a nice antique Aide Memoire pocket case from the 1850s. The front is decorated with a symmetrical spiral design which looks ahead of its time. The pattern is inlaid with gold strips and silver in hexagonal shapes but with two mother of pearl dots within each spiral, quite unique. It has a blank gold shield cartouche in the centre and it has a gold hinged catch at the side. Inside is the original sleeve for writing on with space underneath for more conventiona...l papers. The sleeve is mounted onto ornate gold tone fittings and has two sockets to hold a slim pencil. It is in excellent condition with no damage to it anywhere, there are no chips or cracks. It measures 65mm (2.5") x 100mm (4") by 18mm (0.75") deep.
