Ernie Newman is a well documented fish decoy carver from Minnesota. His work is included in all reference books on noteworthy, old time Minnesota makers and is highly collectible. His early work is extremely rare. This 8" pike dates to about 1940 and is painted yellow and red with burgandy and white accents. The eyes are glass. It has all of the important bells and whistles that mark it as an early decoy. The mouth is cut out with a coping saw and the fins are made from bea...utifully patinated, unpainted sheet brass. It is in beautiful, original condition with light wear and normal crazing to the paint. Almost every early Newman decoy has this crazing and collectors expect to see it in these rare, early examples. It has a wonderful, folky form and excellent patina. Make sure to check my other auctions. I sell more fish decoys than anyone, anywhere.
