This Turkey Tail is from my father's collection of what I call his "museum quality" pieces. This piece is 4.75 inches long, collected by Dr. Ralph Lyons from Drake County Ohio, NW of Dayton. My father purchased it in 1993. I have examined it very closely under white and b...lack light and cannot find any suggestion of tampering. It was made from a high quality, glassy textured, mottled gray flint. There are some medium brown mineral deposits that I was not able to remove with water and detergent. It may indeed scrape off or come off with some solvent. I'll let you try that.
I have several artifacts up for auction at this time and as always, I'm happy to combine items to save $$ on shipping. I will pay for shipping and handling. I will ship to only the lower 48 states and accept Paypal only. Thanks! On Jun-20-19 at 20:32:53 PDT, seller added the following information:An important collector and expert in flint types has informed me that this artifact is likely made of a material known as Kentucky Hornstone.
