Rare original DeSoto coat-of-arms shield style enamel grille badge emblem insignia nameplate. The DeSoto was built from 1928 to 1960 by Chrysler Corporation in Detroit. Online research indicates this type of emblem was used in 1932 and 33 and was attached to a diecast chrome base but I do not know exact model or application for this example. Badges like these were made using the champleve or guilloche process of heat bonding melted gla...ss to a copper base which was then plated. 1 3/16" wide by 2" high, black, blue and translucent gold enamel with chrome plating. No makers mark visible. Curved back from center on top and bottom to match mounting surface. Good to very good used condition, no bends, dents or cracks, a few scratches. Some small areas of chipped and missing enamel, balance is very nice. Original plating still shiny but shows wear, original short mounting boss and rivet base are intact.
