An original and historic manuscript deed for land in York, Maine [then part of Massachusetts], dated August 1, 1737, and signed by Colonial military heroes CAPTAIN PETER NOWELL [1673-1738], the seller, and twice by COLONEL JEREMIAH MOULTON [1688-1765], Justice of the Peace. Needs further research....Peter Nowell was an early settler of York about 1695 and commanded the "garrison houses" that defended against raids from hostile Natives in the early Colonial Indian Wars. He was captain o...f the Town Militia, a public official, a large slave owner for the time, and a major land speculator.......Jeremiah Moulton was captured by Indians as a child, and was an important scout and soldier along the Maine frontier during the Colonial Wars. He was also a Judge, Sheriff, member of the Governor's Council, and Colonel of a Massachusetts Regiment that participated in the siege and capture of the French fortress at Louisbourg in 1745, during King George's War.......Size 9 1/2" x 15 [too large for scanner], folds, separated at centerfold into two halves easily repaired by archival tape, early rag paper, very good condition for such a rare survivor.[ See scans ]....Guaranteed original.......$7.50 priority mail shipping............
