Incredible old 18th c. engraved and carved "moony" white pearl. It is all hand done, with a large paste set in a silver (?) bezel; there is a jeweled copper pin shank at the back with a characteristic flat copper eye. This is a lovely large button measuring 1 1/2".
Please note that there is a darkened area visible at about the 4 o'clock position in the first photo, just inside the beaded border. I believe this could be a natural flaw in the original piece of pearl used for the butto...n. Alternatively, it might have been damage caused by a pest and would have occurred in the very distant past. I have marked the price in keeping with it not being perfect. Note that this area is less noticeable in person.
Looking at this gorgeous button I love to imagine how it must have looked on an outfit back in the 1700s, when candlelight would have made the stones glitter!
