This over 740-year old bowl is in Excellent Condition with No Chips No Cracks No Crazing. Very nice Chinese Jun Ware Stoneware Bowl. Crafted between 960 and 1279 during the Song Dynasty in China, this features a purple splashed blue glaze that shades to beige with a shiny rim. Sometimes referred to as a "bubble bowl, " there is an unglazed base and random splashes of color inside the bowl.
It was discovered in the 1980's that the blue tone of the Jun-Ware was not created by pigments, but is actually an optical effect. During firing, the glaze separates into light-scattering droplets of glass and when light passes through this 'glass emulsion, ' the blue spectrum of light is reflects, giving the ware its bright blue color.
This measures 3" High x 7" Wide rim to rim. I have provided a lot of pictures to best describe the condition of this bowl.
