Up for auction this week is this neat little radio from Emerson, from the 1946 model year. Different references I have checked variously identify this model as 547A, 578A, 587, and 588. Also, 2 different industrial designers are credited with the cabinet design. I have references to Ingraham (used frequently for Emerson radios) and Ray and Charles Eames. The cabinet is made of very tightly molded plywood with rounded corners and a striking face and dial made of ...plastic with gold backing. The radio displays beautifully and sounds that way as well! The chassis has been fully restored: all tubes tested good, all capacitors have been replaced with their modern equivalents and the chassis has been cleaned and lubricated. Sounds great across the AM broadcast band. Weight is 4 pounds (unpacked). Radio is 9 1/2 inches long by 6 1/2 inches high by 6 inches deep. Buyer pays shipping charges. Good luck!
