Original Description:
This is a 5" solid cast figure created, personally hand-painted, and signed by Artist/Sculptor, Fred Kail, creator of the NFL's first figurines in 1956 and licensed by the NFL in 1961. In celebrating many of the old professional leathered football teams, Kail created this figure in 2005 as a whimsical fictitious "old pro" "Jock Jolter", a 1944 NFL Champion Green Bay Packer. The character "Jock Jolter" is a limited edition of Kail's extensive line of personally created "Joe Jolte...r" line. No.1/6 AP "Jock Jolter" is a "character within a character"!  He's the roly-poly rotund "old pro" the leatherhead  with a five o'clock shadow, a bloody broken nose and scraped up knuckles just waiting to tackle the ball carrier. He's the guy that made the winning plays possible, opening the hole for the ball carrier or preventing an opponent's winning touchdown. He's the "60 minute man" playing both offense and defense, always the "unsung hero" and never the "star" that's being rushed for an autograph. He's always the guy with the muddiest uniform waiting to have a couple of beers after the game. He'll never be the one to go into the Hall of Fame,  though he should be, as he is the very personification of the real and original game of football. He's what the game is all about! No other football figurine since Fred Kail's original in 1956, in a whimsical way, captures the true essence of the history of the old pro and gridiron..the passion and yet the comical part that which prevailed among the players. Kail's original rotund figures were more popular among NFL players than of the fans going for more glitzy players. Requests came from many of the 12 NFL team's players. The Baltimore Colt, Art Donovan loved the character as he knew it depicted him (as it truly did), and at $5.00 each bought young Kail's original hand-painted figures by the dozen giving them out to all his friends. Today many of these figures can bring $1, 000 or more. ”After all the pronouncements of glory and valor afforded our icons of sport, it’s a refreshing departure to behold a humble view of our professional pastimes. The master of this alternative art is, decidedly, Fred Kail. In his sculptures, we’re humored by a reminder that stardom is really a bit transparent and that indeed, tbe badge of fame is worn by unsuspecting mortals, much like ourselves. Kail’sstatues have mustered a loyal following.” ~Paul Wilson, Hondo, Texas, Sports Collector
