Antique Brass & Wood 2 Foot FOUR FOLD OUT SLIDE RULE by SAMSON ASTON BIRMINGHAM circa 1860. A very nice example of a four fold out wood & brass fitting rule made by 'SAMSON ASTON. BIRMINGHAM' which is engraved to the front (has some wear to where the makers name is, but still able to make out the name 'ASTON MAKER BIRM.'), there is a brass section to the rule centre that slides out for calculations, when folded up is 6" (inches) & when the 4 sections a...re fully folded out it measures 24" (2 feet), has brass folding pivot, central hinge & slide out rule, with steel ends to the rule. Samson Aston from Birmingham were a quality maker of these & other such instruments from the mid 19th century period.
Shows some use & age wear, with more wear to the outside numbers of the rule but they are still clear to read, the steel struts of the inner side of the hinges have some surface dark age rusting (see photos for more on the rules details & its condition) & overall the rule is in GC for its age.
