Two very well matched hand woven lightweight wool panels. One sided (“Hukulla “ in Quechua) joined at center by hand with alternating colored thread.Tubular woven binding (a warp faced structure) with tassel. Binding both decorative and protects edges from wear.
Motifs: Agricultural fields bands and strips: “Tika Cocha” (diamond lake with flowers)
Colors: Light... and dark greens, light and dark orange-brown, black, white, and purple, pink.
Dimensions: W 32 inches x L 38 inches
Condition:Excellent. One small area with brownish stain. No holes, tears or defects.
Provenance: Owner bought piece from Center for Traditional Textiles Cusco (CTTC), Peru: Established in 1996 to encourage and support traditional textile weaving and to provide a new economy for traditional weaving communities (Chinchero, Pitumarca, Chahuaytiri, Accha Alta, Patabamba, and Mahuypampa) through fair trade and expanded markets. Weavers use hand spun sheep, alpaca and llama fibers woven on backstrap and four staked looms.
