This fabulous "The Rover Patent" detective camera was made by the renowned optician and camera makers "J. Lancaster and Son" of Birmingham, UK, it is made of mahogany with brass fittings, lens and shutter.I believe this is the No. 3 model as the plates measure 4 inches by 5 inches.The camera has two ivorine name plaques to the top one with "The Rover Patent" and a second with the retailers details, "Benetfink & Co., Cheapside, London, E.C.", this has replaced the makers details. The s...tylish lettering is still clear and legible.The brass lens is unnamed, the glass element appears to be free from fungus and scratches.The original "See Saw" shutter is present, as is the pneumatic valve.The shutter is in working order, with the blades moving smoothly.The pneumatic valve does work too, however, it doesn't have enough power to open and close the shutter.There are 9 metal plate frames in the top, one has glass. They measure 5 inches by 6 inches.The wooden body has gained a lovely depth of colour and patina over the years, there are no major splits or cracks, but, there marks, scuffs and scratches.The brass work appears to be complete and the catches work as they should.I have tried to show the condition in the photographs.We are not experts in cameras or there equipment so please ask for any information or additional photographs you require before bidding or purchasing.
