It has been translated into more than forty languages and has sold more than forty million copies worldwide. Only two years after its publication, with the book's popularity soaring, it was made into the three-time Academy Award winning film starring Gregory Peck. Because Harper Lee had never published a book before, the publisher had only an estimated first printing run of 5, 000 copies, many of which went to public libraries, where they put the usual library marks on them. Due to the fact that it was such a sensational hit, it was also well read, which means that finding an early printing with a matching Dust Jacket is becoming more and more rare. This iconic cover of a tree in autumn designed by Shirley Smith was printed on a type of photographic paper, which unfortunately shows every nick and crease and often is found quite sun-faded to the spine, where it often gets the most wear, making this a very desirable copy. Condition:Near Fine Book in Very Good Dust Jacket. Book binding is square and tight. Interior appears unread -- pages bright and unmarked with crisp, dark text. Front and rear paper boards are like new with the books only flaw being spotting to the green cloth on one-quarter boards and spine. Otherwise, nearly like new condition. Dust Jacket presents extremely well. Mild chipping to head and foot spine and front flap crease. Very minimal spotting on front and rear panel showing more moderately on rear flap. Jacket separated at rear panel hinge with repair on verso as well as one other very minor one-quarter inch repair. A very clean example of a jacket that infamously shows the slightest wear.
