This is a limited de luxe edition of Edward Lord Lytton's melodramatic, romantic, overblown novel of the legends of the River Rhine. This is copy number 23 of 500. Lytton was a prolific Victorian writer who invented the phrase "The pen is mightier than the sword" and the story-opener "It was a dark and stormy night"The 27 delicate engravings are on steel, full and half-page. Each is protected by tissue. There is the wear you'd expect on the spine and all ed who used a floridges. There ...is some tanning on the tissue (see photos) but not on the engravings themselves. The front cover is detached but could be repaired.
