Volumes one through four of this original five volume set from 1906. The Library of Natural History Embracing Living Animals of the World and Living Races of Mankind, is a comprehensive catalog of early twentieth century documented creatures and people.
They were published by The University Society Inc., New York, and include thousands of photographs and many color illustrations. The color plates are beautiful and impressive.
The first three volumes are sequentially pag...e numbered with volume two starting at page 257. Each book is printed on heavy stock and weighs approximately 4 pounds, 12 ounces. Each measure 8.5 inches by 11.5 inches by 1.3 inches thick.
The books are in very good condition. They are stout and strong but show their age in a few ways: They are faded on the spine from exposure to light. They are frayed around the edges but only a bit. They have a few stains and other marks on the covers and a few spots on the inside pages. The binding is cracked in a few places. Vol. 1 has one loose page at the back. No pages missing. No writing or underlining in them. One of the onion-skins, facing a color plate, in Vol. 4 is torn just a little. All detractors are expected and normal for books this old.
Lots of now extinct species are featured as well as some peoples listed in antiquated categories.
A nice set of historical documentation from a 114 year old perspective.
