OTHERINFORMATIONIn listing Nancy Drew, I havecome across several questions about the series. I want to address a few points which I believe will help everyone whendetermining what is what in the Drew world.David Farah is a gentleman who has devoted muchtime and effort in researching the print history and development of NancyDrew. He has a very comprehensive guidewhich is updated every so often. Themost recent is “Farah’s 12th Guide” and generally considered by bothcollectors and dealers the “bible” for Nancy Drew. The copyright page of the Nancy Drew, HardyBoys, Dana Girls and other Grosset & Dunlap series books were not updatedfrom printing to printing. This page wasonly updated when the book was revised.
A “First Edition” generally applies to theunchanged, original story.
A “First Print” is just that, the first time thetitle appeared in print.
Titles 1 through 34 in the Nancy Drew serieswere written originally with 25 chapters and 200+ pages.
Titles 35+ were originally written with 20chapters and 180-189 pages.
Starting in 1959, all original stories (or“first editions”) were revised/edited. These new, revised stories, in some instances, are completely differentfrom the original stories. Eventually, titles 1 through 34 were revised to contain only 20 chapters and 180-189 pages. When reading the “Farah’s Number” shown on thechart, here is what it means: The yearshown is the actual print year. Theletter is which printing of that year. The final number is what printing of that title this particular book isactually. So, in “The Secret of the OldClock”, if it shows a Farah’s number of 1960A-86, we know it was printed in theyear 1960. We know this was printed inthe first print run of 1960, most likely early in the year. We also know this was the 86thprinting of this title since the original was written in 1930. I hope this will answer a few ofthe questions you may have. Please feelfree to contact me if you have any other questions. Be sure to checkout my other items. ND-2023
