Item History & Price
DESCRIPTION: Offered is this terrific, authentic and completely origina...l early to mid 19th century, pre-US Civil War, American antique 9 1/2" in diameter, nut brown color, bentwood pine wood pantry box, with its original fitted wooden lid and nailed sidewalls. The single board top and bottom pine planks don't suffer from any splits, fractures or repairs (old or new.) The top lid, bottom pine plank and bentwood sidewalls are all in terrific shape and don't have any depreciating fractures, significant scuffs or deep abrasions. Only the lid's wrap-around, bentwood pine strapping collar, which circumnavigates the lid, has a short, small split in the wood's surface emanating from a metal fastener, which doesn't structurally compromise the lid's rim. No attempt has been made to try and conceal, 'fill' or color-in this imperfection and evidence of prior use. The surfaces have an original, naturally oxidized patina, giving the antique nut brown finish an especially mellow, honeyed look. This early to mid 19th century American antique wood pantry box has its original wood lid and features early, nailed metal fasteners and all wood construction. These early to mid 19th century American antique New England primitive bentwood pantry boxes, sometimes painted in various colors but often seen in this antique nut brown finish, were omnipresent objects in early New England homes and held a variety of food items, keeping them away from harmful pests. Great color and naturally dry, matte, original surfaces. Splendid.
