Original Description:
Identified Civil War CDV, Union Lieutenant / Captain in 151st New York Infantry RegimentSeated in uniform, Kepi with Infantry horn badge.  His uniform is very unusual, reminiscent of other NY Regiments that had custom styles, such as the Zouaves.  Several others have researched this photo before, however, they arrived at the wrong identity.  I have proven it is not the Henry Williams, Surgeon but rather Hobart William, of Albion, NY.  See enhance photo of inscr...iption - it does NOT read "Dr. H. Williams" but rather "Lt. H. Williams".   I did not erase the notes, as I did not want to damage. He and his regiment participated in many well known battles.   He was wounded at Opequon. I will send electronic files of my research to the winner, or any interested bidder.  Glad to answer questions. Inscription: "Yours truly, Lt. H. Williams" Photographer: "Geo. P. Hopkins, Photographer, Albion N.Y."   George Hopkins was active in Albion beginning in 1859 and through the Civil War. Service Record:Enlisted in Co.D, 151st New York Infantry as a 2nd Lieutenant on September 9th 1862. Promotedto1st Lieutenant on February 26th 1864 and Captain on May 7th 1864. Wounded onSeptember 19th 1864 in Opequon, Va. Discharged on June 26th 1865 in WashingtonD.C.Biographical Information:  born: 1840, see gravestone and 1860 Census. died:   1925, See gravestone photograph from Find-a-grave: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/79151146/hobart-williamsHobart WilliamsBIRTH1840DEATH1925 (aged 84–85)BURIALMount Albion CemeteryAlbion,  Orleans County,  New York,  USAMEMORIAL ID79151146 · View Source
