The backplate of the movement is marked with the well-known, crossed arrows HAC trademark which was registered in 1892; probably around the date this clock was made. The movement is unusual in that its duration is 14 day and it strikes (with both a half hour and on-the-hour strike), on a large bell mounted on top if the case inside a brass galleried 'cage' using a hammer which reaches up from the movement inside the bell and therefore cannot be seen. Both mainsprings are OK and when wound, everything works and the clock ticks away happily as it should. By the style of the key, I would say that this is the original clock key.
HAC produced some very good Arts & Crafts/Secessionist style cases at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century and the story is that they hired top name European designers to work on these. In England, the clocks were imported and sold in the so-called 'Art Furniture' shops and this model has been seen bearing a Liberty furniture stock label and they may have been the original importers.
