I think it is German silver rather than sterling because it does not tarnish to speak of and looks harder than sterling.
Bow guards are no longer utilitarian now that bows and arrows are not everyday equipment, but they are a very important piece of Navajo and Hopi tradition, are important pieces of adornment, and are required in some ceremonies. This one has a buckle..., much more convenient than the leather thongs on many, and you can put it on without help. With all the fasteners on the inside of the wrist, the decorated ketoh would in fact make a lousy bow guard as there is too much opportunity to foul the bow string.
Thick cowhide, very attractive. nice stones. Quarters flank the center shield. Good looking.
Priced at a loss, because I bought it as silver. 174 grams
