Here let me rest, on thee dependMy God, my hope, my allBe thou my everlasting friendAnd I can never fall
Jane's name and the date of October 31st 1834 are contained within the midd...le area of the linen with four floral motifs beneath, whilst the lower section contains an impressive rendition of Solomon's temple. It's title - A View of Solomon's Temple - is stitched above then the top and side edges of the linen are stitched with a deep floral border. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, paler around the edges and also across and down the middle from where the sampler is on a stretcher. The sampler is behind glass so I'm not able to see the reverse, but the colours of the silks appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. There is also bleeding to the darker stitch work of the words. The sampler is contained within its seemingly original mahogany frame which is in good condition with some scratches and scuff marks commensurate with its age and retains its original top hanging rings.Measures 15 1/4" across x 16" (sight size) and 19 1/4" x 20 1/2" including the frame.
PLEASE NOTE - ANY MARKS ETC ON THE PHOTOGRAPHS WHICH I'VE NOT ALREADY MENTIONED ARE FROM THE GLARE AND REFLECTION OF THE GLASS AND NOT ON THE SAMPLER ITSELF.
