Very small early/mid 19th century linen and silk work sampler. Though undated, the style of stitch work would indicate this piece dates to c.1840 or slightly earlier. Worked by an anonymous hand, this tiny sampler is completely charming with fine quality stitch work throughout. The field of the linen is stitched with "The Lord's Prayer" which is then surrounded by a meandering floral border. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age with general grubbiness and the col...ours of the thread are good. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when it was first stitched. This photograph also shows remnants of old paper around the edges of the linen from where the sampler has been glued down at some point of time. As can also be seen from the photographs, there are a few small areas of damage to the field of the linen, with some having resulted in a small amount of stitch loss. I've photographed the sampler on a white background to highlight this, but once on a similar coloured backing the damage would be less noticeable.Measures 6 1/4" x 6 1/4" ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK.
