Reference Number: Avaluer:48403
Original Description:
Small early 19th century sampler by Ann Field - 1825. Worked in silk on fine gauze, this sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The upper and middle sections of the linen are stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns whilst the lower section contains Ann's name and the date of August 25th 1825 with a trio of crowns to their side. The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age and the colours of the silks are good some sli...ght bleeding to areas of the stitch work. There is also thinning to the pale thread used for certain letters , some of which have disappeared completely over the years. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Ann first stitched it. Measures 8 1/2" x 10 1/2"
