After the American Motors Corporation sold the Kelvinator(appliances) portion of th...e company in 1968, it acquired Jeep from Kaiser in1970; after forming a partnership with Renault (France), AMC was itselfacquired by the Chrysler Motors Corporation in 1987.
The AM script logo was used by the company from 1954 throughapproximately 1970 when it was replaced (with some overlap) by the red, whiteand blue flag logo (a.k.a. A-Mark) until Chrysler terminated the AMC brand and created theJeep/Eagle division for the limited products that remained.
Patch specifics:Thispatch was part of an very extensive Jeffery/Nash/Rambler/AMC/Chrysler plant security based memorabiliacollection belonging to a now deceased collector; the background story is that after AMC was acquired by Chrysler and under thedirection of management, all AMC security department (current and obsolete) badges, patches and otheruniform items were placed into storage as the transition to Chrysleridentification was being implemented. These security related items were then acquired by the collectorprior to the public auction of virtually all of AMC's assets in Kenosha (WI) onApril 25-28, 1989.
The shoulder patch measures approximately 4-3/4” wide x 3-11/16”high and bears no indication of having been sewn onto either a jacket or shirt; therefore, it is being listed as NOS and will have the scent of mothballs from storage.
