This Beautiful Ornamental piece has been crafted in sections and is carved and detailed only to one side. With the plain side having been attached to the exterior of a Temple, Shrine or high status building. In lovely condition with traces of gilt still visible. The phoenix holds strong symbolic importance in Chinese culture.
The usage of the phoenix in art ...dates as far back as 8000 years and in that time has taken on many meanings.
In the Qing Dynasty, the phoenix was understood to be the embodiment of female power and usually stood alongside the dragon as the symbolic representation of the Empress of China.The piece has been mounted on a heavy quality metal stand for display.
