Historyof The Comptometer Model H Below:TheH-Model appeared in the 1920 as F&T's first postwar Modelstarting with SN 200, 000 and was produced from 1920-1926Itis easily distinguished from the prior models by the presence of theComptometer Script Logo on the front and back of the caseHowever, improved operational characteristics were to largely determine itsfate in the marketplaceTheforward placement of the clearing lever allowed the operator to zerothe register with a single motion of the little finger, withoutaltering hand position over the keyboardInternally, less obvious improvements included audible, tactile and visual clearsignals (bell, key pressure and slight offset of register zeros)Allthese refinements improved operator speed and accuracy, but at somecost in complexity of the mechanism, which required the front of themachine to be extended by about 1 cmSupportfor this major step forward included one of the most detailedtechnical manuals for mechanical devices ever producedBy1920, Felt & Tarrant had grown into a major presence in theoffice machine business and Dorr Felt would kick off the introductionof his new model with a gathering of his sales force in June at theChicago factoryTheH-Model was a Big Hit with users and justifiably so what with itsmany operational and aesthetic improvementsItwas produced until 1926
