You are checking out a classic 1958 Williams Turf Champ pinball that features wooden horsesthat race up the playfield towards the finish line! The horses that are featured were actual famous racehorsesincluding;Gallant Man....whose jockey Bill Shoemaker famouslymisjudged the Kentucky Derby’s finish line and lost.Round Table....1958 Horse of the Year, Bold Ruler........1957 Horse of the Year, Needles..............winner of the 1957 Kentucky Derby andBelmont Stakes, Tim... Tam............winner of 1958 Kentucky Derby andPreakness Stakes.. Turf Champ is a 5 ball game that starts with the push of theplay button (set on free play), you then select your horse by using theselect button, then bring a ball into play and judge your plunger shot to godown the rollover number to advance your horse. The ball quickly bounces around the numbered pop bumpers that either advances the horsewhose bumper is lit or switches the lighted bumper. This is mostly luckas the ball makes it way towards the flippers. Once into the lower open playfieldyou can use the flippers to help your horse advance. When the ball exits theplayfield you try to get it in the hole with your horses number. The game ends either after 5 balls or if 3 horses take the Win, Place, and Show. I have had Turf Champ for 30+ years in my house and have played manygames, it has been very reliable and plays well today! I have thrown numerousparty’s and my friends enjoy betting against each other by picking the winninghorse. This makes for a fun gambling type machine! The Cabinet is in nice condition with the original paint andincludes the cigarette holder. The wood rails and backglass frame have beensanded, stained and varnished and look very nice! This game is slightly longer than most pinballsThe Backglass has been sealed with a pinball specificsealer to protect the paint which had some areas of flaking but otherwise ingood condition. This sealer has protected the backglass since I applied it 30+ years ago. The Playfield does show some wear especially inthe lower playfield. All the wood horses are hand painted but missing theirtails and the #5’s jockey (Shoemaker} is missing his head. I purchased some newplastics ($100.) that are included but not installed I’m leaving the original plasticsin place. Even so it has little effect on the games playability. The Play is good with strong pop bumpers and flippers. Thehorses all reset to the starting gate at the start of a game and advance to thefinish line as play progresses. Due to being set on free replay it doesn’treward game credits. Besides being fun to play it's a beautiful game to look at!
