Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:49597247 |
This is an absolutely Gorgeous Superfine vintage 1920 genuine French Pure Linen Bed Sheet. Large size 94” x 124.5”. Will not shrink anymore. Come freshly laundered. The weave is one of the finest fil de lin that you will find. Weaved evenly. Definitely belonged to a rich household in the early 20th century. I estimate the gsm is about 175gsm; so for these vintage antique French sheets it is considered a light weight one.
There are currently no more genuine French linen for bedd...ing and apparel being produced anymore. All modern “French linen” you’ll find are “French flax linen.” They are flax grown in northern France but the actual linen fabric weaved somewhere else, usually China or a Baltic country. French flax linen weaved/made in Portugal is probably the closest to actual French linen you will get. Therefore the only true French linens are vintage antique ones still circulating. But supplies don’t last so get them while you still can!!
***Regarding the size: there are French vintage/antique linen sheets that are advertised as 96” -98.5” widths. I can tell you that with my years of extensive experience finding extra-wide widths of vintage/antique French linen, none of them actually ends up being wider than 94” or 95”. The exaggerated wide widths are estimated with excessive ironing which I personally do not consider to be an honest representation of actual size. The actual size ought to be the natural state of the sheet laying completely flat but not artificially stretched out. Because that’s what the actual size will end up as you lay them unto your bed. In addition, most French vintage/antique linen will shrink to about 4%. So once you take that into account you do not end up with a sheet wider than 94” typically. This sheet listed I guarantee will not shrink further and is the actual size listed, not exaggerated or from artificially inflated size.
Discounted price because some small thinning and wear on the sheet but you can’t see them unless you look for them. But no holes or tears so perfectly usable. Also makes for a gorgeous project fabric; it has a beautiful drape. The embroideries are in perfect condition. No obvious stains that I can see. Might be some very tiny ones since this sheet is old.
Any questions please ask I answer quickly
