Up for auction is a very nice medieval manuscript vellum Breviary leaf in Latin, France (for the Use of Soissons), circa 1300-1320. There are 14 large initials alternating in red and blue with extending pen work. There are also numerous small rubricated initials and section headings. The text on the recto is from the Litanies (Latin and English translation provided). The text on the verso is for a Friday, possibly after Ash Wednesday ("In nollo cum introisset Capharium..." - Matthe...w 8.5-7).There are two very minor repairs along the upper margin.This attractive leaf is in very good condition and it measures approx. 7 3/4 x 5 7/8 inches (195 x 150mm).
