Early 1900 ' S Koken ? Barber Pole / Light

Item History & Price

Information:
Reference Number: Avaluer:49686335
Original Description:
Light is for sale locally on Crayglst RI and auction will end early if piece sells. You may want to look at the pictures there also as I include different ones.
Take a good look at the photos as piece is being sold as is.
I live in Northern RI and am willing to travel an hour to meet and drop this off. There is a large Flea Market in Jewett City / Griswold CT. If you are interested in meeting somewhere contact me before purchase and we can make arrangements.

I believe this i...s a Koken but I can't find any markings, let me know where to look if you know.
Piece is in need of restoration but it's pretty old and pretty unusual. Piece is being sold as is for parts or restoration. I describe each part as follows.

Screws:
When I found this it was caked in caulk which was used to seal the edges and to piece together some of the broken glass. Many of the screws had been party loosened, stripped or broken off. I removed them and replaced them with the shiny ones you see. The bolt depot labeled them all the same finish, but some are more shiny than others. They were only $6 with shipping if you replace them all again. I'll include what originals I pulled out but they are shot. The top white enamel piece is held on by 2 screws. One of the 2 was broken off inside and the new replacement screw doesn't thread all the way in, it holds but bottoms out quickly. I'll order a new shorter one, or you could have this properly tapped and threaded. Some of the small retaining pieces that hold the glass in place are missing. Each arm has three, though 2 seems to hold the glass and they look like something pretty easy to replicate. Two of the screws that hold the little retainer clips in place are broken off. The same guy who taps that other screw hole could take care of these, however as I said 2 clips seem to be holding the glass.
Glass:
As should be visible in the photos I only have 4 of the 6 pieces of glass. I have the 2 broken pieces but parts are missing. The four "good' pieces all have chips along the edges. Much of this is covered by the metal frame, some of it is not. Many of the chipped areas are missing color as a result. Perhaps the easiest route would be to have a stained glass studio make 6 matching leaded glass pieces , (the easiest, easiest route would be to turn the open side to the wall).
Enamel:
The white enamel pieces are pretty good , but have some damage. The edges are chipped and there are several places where enamel is worn or chipped. A thorough cleaning will help. The top enamel piece has a screw broken off inside of one of the 2 holes as I mentioned in the screw section. The white has some dark soot like stains, possibly car or train exhaust or perhaps this was gas lit at one point. One of the 4 screws that hold the globe in place wiggle a little. This wiggly screw holds in place but the threads must have been damaged at some point.
Metal frame:
Frame is in pretty good condition. It has a whitish tarnish which I cleaned off but it came back, probably didn't polish it enough. Two of the arms have 1 screw each broken off inside the holes that hold the glass retainers as I mentioned in the screw section.
Cast iron base:
The cast iron base seems crooked. The pieces were all loose when I got it. I disassembled it to remove all the caulk and replace the screws. The large bolt holding the base pieces together doesn't seem original and does not tighten easily. If i were restoring this I would replace it with one that can be properly tightened and straighten the whole piece. I believe this entire piece sat on another base or pole and I don't think the hole for the wires is original. Base is rusty but overall pretty good.
Wiring:
There was no top globe but there's lots of reproductions out there. The metal fitting for the 2 lights looks original. The brass light sockets are obviously pretty recent additions. There are 2 holes the light fixture screws into and one is either broken or perhaps a factory flaw. It holds the fixture tight.
Shipping
I am willing to ship this, but only if I dismantle it. It needs to be disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and polished anyway so I'll be doing part of the work for you. The white enamel pieces, and the cast iron pieces will fit in 2 large flat rate priority boxes at $20 each. The glass will ship separately in a ton of bubble wrap for another $20. The metal arms and other parts will go in another parcel for $20. Insurance will be an additional $20. So for $100 this will ship anywhere in the USA except Alaska and Hawaii. I have mentioned above I will meet somewhere in New England within reason to deliver this.
Take a good look at the photos and ask any questions before you buy.
