Very rare and original, ca1910’s Native American Shoshone Indian Hand Made Game Arrow used to play a Hoop and Arrow, Arrow Throwing Game. This outstanding, early 20th century Indian Arrow measures approx. 39 1/2" long and retains its complete, sinew wraps, significant amounts its original feathers at the fletching and its original iron nail point.
This finely hand crafted, Game Arrow does not have the typical, v-shaped notch (known as nocks) at the back end... but was rather meant to be thrown and not shot from a bow. The iron point is quite heavy and this long Arrow ia well balanced allowing it to be thrown with precision when used in the Shoshone Hoop and Arrow Game. The shaft retains remnants of its original paint decoration and the vast majority of what appears to be the original varnish-like coating. As stated above, the point is a large size (perhaps 8d) iron nail.
This Arrow came to us identified as an “Anishinaabe Game Arrow” however it is nearly identical in form and construct to examples of early 20th century Shoshone Game Arrows in the collection of The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian and we believe it to be Shoshone.

This very rare and original, ca1910’s Native American Shoshone Indian Game Arrow is in excellent condition. The shaft is sound and strong retaining its original, sinew wraps, feather fletching, iron point and surface finish. There is some loss to the feathers at the fletching as can be seen below but otherwise the Game Arrow is very well preserved.
