1965 Gibson EB - 2 Vintage Hollowbody Electric Bass Guitar Cherry W/ Case
Item History & Price
The one-piece mahogany neck has a very chunky and well rounded C shaped profile that is very deserving of the "baseball bat" moniker, filling the palm and contributing greatly to the resonance and sustain of the instrument. The profile measures .972" deep at the 1st fret and graduates to an impressive 1.052" at the 12th fret. The thick slab Brazilian rosewood fretboard sports pearloid dot inlay and the bass retains the original medium jumbo frets which have lots of meat and show only light uniform wear on the crowns of frets 1-6, with virtually no fretwear further up the board. The truss rod is responsive, and the bass plays well in every register. The original nut measures 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the Gibson logo and "crown" are inlaid in pearloid, which has taken on a shade of amber over the decades. The stock chrome tuning machines are intact and turn smoothly as well.
All of the electronics work as they should, with Volume and Tone knobs as well as a Varitone push button tone shift/boost switch that adds further versatility to the EB-2's sound. The original bridge is intact, and the bridge/tailpiece inserts have room for future adjustment too. The pickguard and bracket are modern replacements courtesy of MojoAxe, while the knobs and strap buttons are original. Visible through the bass side F hole, the original orange Gibson label with serial number and clean model info is present. The electronics are untouched and what can be viewed via a mirror through the treble side F hole is all original with untouched solder joints.
Cosmetically, this bass is in fantastic shape, with a vibrant and original nitro lacquer Cherry finish. The bass exhibits vertical lacquer checking along with one spot of light, localized buckle rash central to the body at the waist on the back and some scattered smaller nicks and scuffs. The holes for the chrome string cover have also been cleanly filled with localized touchup. There are few scattered nicks on the neck profile with one spot of wear through the lacquer behind fret 5. The bass shows no serious or structural wear of any kind and will satisfy serious collectors and players alike!
The original hardshell case is included. The case retains the original handle and latches, and the exterior shows some scuffs and nicks.
