A Very Exquisite & Rare Gruen “Ocean Chief” Divers watch With a Tropical Band.. Condition is Pre-owned. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. Offered here is an exceptionally rare and attractive Gruen Ocean Chief diver, circa 1950s. Gruen produced these dive watches as an answer to the Blancpain Fifty Fathom, Breitling SuperOcean, and Rolex Submariner which were a commercial success at this time. Gruen Ocean Chief utilized the same bezel as the Breitling SuperOcean, giving the watch... a unique, concave appearance.This Gruen Ocean Chief is in great vintage condition.
There is no apparent corrosion marks or watchmakers repair marks on the back of the watch or movement. This movement is still untouched, the band has a small tear on one of the loop that you insert the male end of the band.
The case is unpolished and untouched. No strip marks or buffed marks on the back of the case, The glossy dial is a shiny tropical black color no browning tones. The original radium lume is present on both dial and hands, some apparent aging on the border of the inner part on the hands, but it is reading strongly on a geiger meter.
