The drawing, executed in pen, ink and grey wash on laid paper, shows a religious scene, depicting Father God, commanding the Prodigal Son to return home.This drawing, without any doubt, was a preparatory study for a painting.The composition of our drawing is very simular to several paintings by Lauri (such as "Pan and Diana" - see extra photo).

FILIPPO LAURI (Rome 1623 - Rome 1694) : Italian painter, draughtsman, son of a Flemish landscape painter, Balthazar Lauwers who had emigrated to Rome and who was his first teacher.
He was one the leading Roman artists of the second half of the 17th century (he was twice Principe of the Accademia di San Luca, in 1684 and 1685). As a painter, he was able to vary continuously his style and choice of subject, being able not only to paint frescoes and monumental canvases, but also small cabinet pictures for private commissions and collectors.

Condition : Good. Some scattered dirt throughout. Some small spots. Right vertical : traces of folding. Attached to a support by the top side. Unframed.
