LARGE Antique SIMON & HALBIG 42 - Inch Doll
Item History & Price
Simon and Halbig was a maker of porcelain that was founded in Grafen-hain, Thuringia, Germany in 1869. Sources report that Simon and Halbig remained in business until around 1930, but they were reportedly bought by Kammer and Reinhardt in 1920. Collectors of dolls are very fond of the pieces made by Simon and Halbig and are happy to find the "S&H" mark on the back of a doll's head.
This doll has a bisque head with pierced e...ars, jewelry, and fine fixed paperweight brown eyes (paperweight eyes are hand blown and resemble real human eyes). These types of dolls came in a wide variety of sizes, with the smallest being 7- to 10-inch size. The largest size of these dolls was 42-inches tall, which is what this one is. She is wearing a white, lacy dress that has a few small stains, and a matching bonnet, socks, petticoat, and antique black shoes that show some wear (see photos). She has a few imperfections on her hands, legs, head, and body (refer to photos for details). She is not perfect, but looks amazing considering her age. Her sheer size puts her at the top of her class. Please ask all questions before bidding, as ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Thank you for your interest. USA shipping only.
~~ In response to a question:Thank you for your interest in this doll. She has some tiny dots on her forehead underneath her bangs (see attached photos). She also has a tiny "v-shaped" imperfection on her cheek (see photo). Also, there is a hairline fracture behind her ear (see photo). Most of her facial imperfections are barely noticeable. The photos were the best I could do to capture the images.
