Original Description:
Coat of Arms for Oxford University, with DOMI MINA NVS TIO ILLV MEA, their motto, carved on an open book-shaped plaque, with two crowns above and one below. This is their exact coat of arms, and can be seen on campus to this day. The shield and adornments appears to be from a single block of wood, since the grain of the wood lines up on both.This is deeply carved- the crowns and book look to be 3/8 of an inch above the face of the plaque. Very skillfully done work.The wood 'hanger...' is also part of the original wood. A section of the right side has been lost to time. This is quarter-sawn white oak wood. The reinforcement strips on the back looks to be of copper, with brass screws.I believe this dates to 1850-1885, possibly before.
