Heathkit It-11 Capacitor Checker Tester Completely Refurbished and Calibrated. (Pics are of the actual tester you will receive) If you're looking at this, then you know what this is. Heathkit's top of the line capacitor tester. No bench is complete without a quality tester like this. Checks resistance 5 ohms - 50 meg ohms. With a small supply of known inductors it will measure unknown inductances. You can also measure the turns ratio of power and audio transformers. Checks capacitance ...10pF - 1000uF. DC capacitor leakage test 3 volts - 600 volts! Lets get to the good stuff that sets this tester miles apart from any other one being sold on here. ALL components were replaced with high quality parts ordered from Digi-Key. Digi-Key is an american vender that is known for selling AUTHENTIC components straight from the source. Unlike other "restorations" on here that use cheap chinese crap ordered from god knows where, or an assortment of used parts grabbed out of a junk box, these components are new, high quality, name brand, and guaranteed authentic. ALL 1/2 watt 20% tolerance carbon composition resistors have been replaced with 1 watt 1% tolerance metal film resistors. Power resistors from the transformer were changed from 2 watt 20% tolerance to one 5 watt and one 10watt 1% tolerance. All wax capacitors were replaced with Illinois brand poly film caps. I have taken the time to identify and correctly orient the outside foil on all of the new poly film caps.(YES this is a real thing, YES it matters, and almost no one does it.) ALL electrolytic capacitors were replaced with Rubycon caps. The line cord capacitors were replaced with X1 Y2 safety caps made by Vishay (pic 4) The cracked and brittle line cord was replaced with a brand new polarized one. A new grommet was also added. (This unit is wired for 120 volts, but can be wired for 240 volts) All capacitor leads and appropriate resistor leads were dressed with high temperature fiberglass tubing for added safety. The only components left original are the 2% tolerance capacitors, the precision resistors and mica capacitor, in the bridge circuit. They all tested spot on. All tubes tested good. All switches have been cleaned and cleaned again with contact cleaner, and then properly lubricated. This is supposed to be an accurate piece of test gear. How accurate can you possibly be with 60 year old leaky caps and 20% tolerance resistors drifting all over the place? To show the accuracy, I've hand picked precision value components using my digital LCR meter. These components are center values for each range setting of the center dial. Pic 5 is a 200 ohm resistor, pic 6 is a .0002uF capacitor, pic 7 is a .02 capacitor, and pic 8 is a 2uF capacitor. They all test dead center. These center values are important to assure that the rest of the dial on either side is accurate. This unit started its life factory built from Heathkit, unlike most that are hand built by consumers. You can tell by the riveted in switches, terminal tie strips, and transformers. Consumer built models were provided with machine screws, star washers, and nuts. I think its pretty obvious a lot of work went into restoring this tester. Save yourself all the time and trouble and get this completely restored, calibrated, and perfectly functioning tester. This one is as good as it gets and you won't find a better one. Don't hesitate because someone WILL snatch this up.
