For sale is an Authentic antique hand forged blacksmith made late 1700s or early 1800s wrought iron fireplace hearth peel in wonderful antique condition. The top of peel shows a nice decorative 15 faced polyhedron design, a classical finale for iron peel of the American colonial period. The handle just below the finale is slightly thicker and bulged just so slightly than the lower part, a design detail and craftsmanship that cannot be found in later imitations. It is perhaps to provide... the user a more comfortable grip.: )Fireplace peel is an early primitive tool used to remove bread and other cooked foods from the fireplace cooking hearth. No visible repairs and in original antique condition. Shows natural aging, rusting and patina, mostly on the peel, (since that is the part that gets heated and cooled repeatedly in the fire.)
