James C. Dozier had a distinguished military career prior to his appointment as South Carolina's Adjutant General in 1926. He served with General Pershing in the Pancho Villa Expedition in 1916 and then served in World War I in the 118th Infantry Regiment, where his heroic actions in France on October 8, 1918 resulted in his being awarded the Medal of Honor. Dozier eventually reached the rank of Lt. General.
The letter is in excellent condition, with no tears or other damage. It has the typical tri-fold to fit in the standard-size business envelope. The envelope is in good condition, with no major tears. There is a small area of light staining on the end on both front and back and a wrinkle on one side of the flap. The stamp has been removed.
