Vintage Madame Alexander 14 " Tagged Binnie Walker Bent Knee Redhead Pigtails
Item History & Price
The doll is marked "ALEXANDER" on the back of her neck. Her dress tag reads "Binnie Walker." She stands 14 inches tall with legs that bend at the knees. She is NOT a walker doll.
This Binnie has the classic "CISSY" face so often sought after. Even more she's a redhead with pigtails. It's easy enough to see the Binnie with blonde pigtails in the green striped dress, bu...t kind of rare to see her with red hair in this teal striped one. Personally I really like the pink and teal!
Her cute pink dress has a ruffled double layered hem with white rickrack trim at the collar and cuffs of her sleeves. The dress fastens with square snaps in the back. Over her cotton pink dress is a lively teal striped pinafore with adorable pink accenting pockets that match the dress. The pinafore has a snap in the back and a sash that ties into a bow around her back.
Best of all I think is the gorgeous ivory taffeta slip or underskirt with a wire rim and tulle rickrack trimmed hem that pushes the skirt of the dress out to a full flare! Her lace trimmed taffeta undies match the slip.
She has her original pink hair ribbons, that once upon a time were a darker pink, but have faded to the soft light pink they are now. Her hairs seems to be in the original auburn braids.
She has her original rayon socks and center snap black fabric shoes. (The black shoes have color cast some grayness to the rayon socks - so I'll make sure they don't rub the dress during packaging for shipment.)
Binnie still has her little wrist tag that looks like the envelope reading "To ALL LITTLE GIRLS EVERYWHERE." It has a new string, though, and shows a bit of wear from the years.
Overall the doll is beautiful but let me tell you of flaws or some repair done:
1) Her pinafore has a spot on the hem on the left side which you can only see if you look at her from behind. I laundered the dress and made some efforts to lighten the stain and it looks much better. I was not able to completely remove it. Someone else might know some better tricks. See the image of the back of the dress and you should see it on the left.2) Her left eye was out of alignment when I got her, so I removed her head and turned the eye slightly on the T bar to realign it. 3) While the head was off, I painted Mod Podge sealant over the metal weight to prevent shedding.4) I restrung her head with 3 mm round elastic cording but the cording seems to be preventing the eye mechanism from movement so she doesn't close her eyes. If you redo the cording you might get her eyes moving again, because the mechanism DOES work. So she comes with open eyes that stay open.5) Undies have a light stain in the taffeta on the bottom - see image.6) wrist tag is worn with wear and age - see image - and is tied to her wrist with a new cord.
She was very loved and comes from an adult Binnie Walker doll collector who had to downsize reluctantly so we hope we find this precious Binnie a new loving home. I was happy to help restore some of her beauty before she moves on.
She is fresh and clean and hopefully ready to join your collection display.
