Solid sterling silver English fusee lever pocket watch 1878 cleaned & working Click image to enlarge Description On offer is a fully cleaned, serviced and working (with 1 year guarantee) Victorian s...olid sterling silver fusee table roller lever pocket watch, London 1878 complete with key The dial is white enamel with Roman numerals and a sunken subsidiary seconds. The hands are blue steel. The sterling silver double bottomed case bears the London hallmarks for 1878 (upper case c). The rear is engine turned with a blank cartouche. The makers initials are P:W Probably Phillip Woodman, 33 Smith Street, Northampton Square, Clerkenwell, London. The rear cover flips open when the pendant button is pressed. The case is stamped with the number 15911 the same as the movement number.The movement is a key wound (key supplied) English full plate fusee table roller lever. It is wound from the rear (anticlockwise), the hands are set from the front. It has a cut temperature compensated bi-metallic balance with gold timing screws. Regulation is via a London quadrant type. The movement is stamped with the number 15911. The movement is also stamped (under the dial) with the serial number (15911) and the initials J W 14. 0/2.This is a very nice example of a mid Victorian sterling silver cased English fusee lever pocket watch, in very good over all condition. Movement condition: excellent, the gilding nice and bright, with only one or two very minor marks. It is complete with its original dust cap. The balance, lever pallets, escape (capped), fourth and third wheels are jewelled (15 jewels). Dial condition: almost perfect, there is a very small hair line crack near the centre. Case condition: very good, there are no dents or bump, there are some light marks on the rear, the engine turning is still very crisp (some wear around the edge) as is the coin edge. The front bezel snaps shut as it should do. The rear cover springs open, but the rear spring is weak and therefore needs a hand. The front and rear hinges are good. Crystal: glass, original, one or two small scratches. It runs well to the end of the chain (greater than 30 hours) and keeps good time. Size: 48mm (1.90 inches) in diameter and 16mm (0.65 inches) thick. Weight: 104g (3.69oz).
