For sale is this great-playing 1978 Selmer Mark VII alto. No engraving, but this one does have an early "M-prefix" serial number: M 284xxx. Easily 90% of the original lacquer is intact with most of the wear reserved to key touches. In the limited areas where there is lacquer wear you can see the patina has a beautiful red color suggesting a high copper content. Pads are not new but have plenty of life left - all are soft and sealing very well. Physical condition is excellent: no dents/...dings or major solder repairs. Recently back from one of Cleveland's most respected woodwind technicians and it's playing great. Keywork is fluid and comfortable - especially if you have larger hands. I prefer the MK VII right hand pinky layout to that of my Mark VI.
The sound is BIG, warm, and centered - plenty of Selmer core and lots of punch. Compared to my '56 Mark VI alto, I can say that this VII is louder, darker, more centered, and seems to be able to take more air. Great for classical and chamber work (Dr. Fred Hemke [RIP] did have a hand in designing the VII, after all) but also plenty of power for less refined musical pursuits. I much prefer this VII to the SA80s, Series IIs, and Series IIIs I've played over the years, as well as some Mark VIs I've tried.
Comes with its original case that's in very good condition.
