Offered for sale is a vintage (ca. late 20th c.) Kambot tribal carved wood storyboard from the lower Sepik River region of Papua New Guinea. Storyboards are a tradition of the Kambot people, and they usually depict village life scenes or adventure scenes. They are kept and displayed in the men's tambarans ( ceremonial/ritual house). This storyboard illustrates a jungle adventure scene with animals throughout - a lizard and bird in the tree. a monkey, and a large snake in the foreground.... The details are created by using white lime and red earth ochres. It is in good condition with wear consistent with age and use - minor wood chips and several natural stress cracks in the wood due to age. The storyboard measures 24 1/2" wide, and 10" high. It will make a great addition to your collection of Asian/Oceanic art.
