Original Description:
This pair of wooden figures possibly puppets from the Nyamwezi or Sukuma people of Tanzania. Male and female are decorated with a necklace of red glass beads, and the female has a belt of beads. Arms are missing, the elongated, curved body and short legs are typical of the puppets from this region. Both torsos are wrapped with cloth and have an encrusted surface. Insect damage to one of the feet. Inlaid beads for eyes, carved ears and pronounced hairline. Measuring 72cms, and 68cms hei...ght. Circa 1970's.  These figures do not stand up unaided. Sold as a pair.  Please note shipping is taking longer due to covid restrictions.
