PORT ROYAL, CAPTAIN HENRY MORGAN’S BRIG CORAL ENCRUSTED POUNDERCANNONBALL, 1692This coral encrusted 3pounder cannonball was found in the wreck of Captain Henry Morgan’s brig thatsank in Port Royal harbor that was destroyed by the earthquake of 1692. &nb...sp; It is 2 7/8” in diameter & is in goodcondition with medium pitting & has a dark brown patina. The few cannonballs that camefrom this ship just had a little coral encrustation attached but this one issticking out of a large chunk of coral, really neat! It has been professionally conserved using a newtreatment perfected by the U.S. Navy for the preservation of salt waterartifacts. Itcame from the Port Royal Museum where it was on display until the museum closeddown & its collection sold. Therehave not been any artifacts from this area for many years because the whole baycan no longer by dived in as the water is not fit for diving, swimming orboating as the sewage from Kingston is released directly into thebay! Artifacts from Port Royal are now considered very rare & areseldom seen at antique or militeria shows anymore! It comes with a Becker Collection letter & a certificate ofauthenticity.
