Original Description:
PORT ROYAL, CAPTAIN HENRY MORGAN’S BRIG 2 POUNDER CANNON BALL, 1692This 2 pounder cannonball was found in the wreck of Captain Henry Morgan’s brig that sank in Port Royal harbor that was destroyed by the earthquake of 1692.                                                                         ...                   It is about 2 3/16" diameter, is in good condition with medium pitting & has a dark brown patina.                    It has been professionally conserved using a new treatment perfected by the U.S. Navy for the preservation of salt water artifacts..                                                                                                                                                                    It came from the Port Royal Museum where it was on display until the museum closed down & its collection sold.                                                                                                                                                                                              It was bought by Joseph Becker who was a retired U.S. Navy diver & had dove on the old port for many years & had a large collection of artifacts.                                                                                                                                           There have not been any artifacts from this area for many years because the whole bay can no longer by dived in as the water is not fit for diving, swimming or boating as the sewage from Kingston is released directly into the bay!                                                                                                                                                                                       Artifacts from Port Royal are now considered very rare & are seldom seen at antique or militeria shows anymore!                                                                                                                                                                                        It comes with a Becker Collection letter & a certificate of authenticity.                                                                           See my other Port Royal artifacts, several bronze African trade rings taken off a slaver ship & 2 solid silver Spanish crosses all listed separately.
