Very rare and original, 1880’s Native American Shoshone Indian Chief / Brave Cabinet Card Photograph by Nebraska Photographer William R. Cross.
This outstanding, Card Mount Portrait Photo measures approx. 4" by 5 3/4" and is mounted on its original photographer's card mount (overall size of mount is 4 1/4” by 6 1/2”). The Cabinet Card features a stunningly beautiful, bust portrait of a Shoshone Man wearing a western style vest, bead decorated armbands a...nd typical Shoshone hair ornament.
While the Image does not carry a photographer’s mark, it is a well documented portrait that was taken by western photographer William R. Cross.
This rare and original, Shoshone Indian Cabinet Card Photograph is in excellent to near mint condition. The Photo itself is clean and crisp and exceptionally well preserved exhibiting razor sharp focus, strong contrast and rich, warm tonality. The Card Mount is also clean and crisp and very well preserved with very light edge wear and slight curling to the mount.
