Do your homework on this one. Pre-64? Likely prior to 1959! There are no manufacturing code numbers. The only tells are the scales and pins and they’re consistent with my oldest White Hunters (1957-1958) I’ve bought, sold & collected Puma knives since this knife was new! I HAVE NEVER SEEN A NICER 70+ year old PUMA. This particular White Hunter is as close to perfect as you’re ever going to find. Check the photos because I’ll run out of adjectives! When the blade is mirror finis...hed, good photos are very difficult to take. The knife is all original. The sheath, scales & pins are flawless. Even the leather is still supple! Please contact me if you have questions. Pre 1964 Vintage Puma 6377 Pumaster Steel Knife. The Puma model number is 6377. The knife is not stamped with a guarantee control number. This indicates the knife was hand made at Puma Werks in Solingen, Germany prior to 1964.
It has stag handles with lots of character. The PUMA White Hunter model was developed in 1956 in conjunction with the East African Professional Hunter’s Association to be the leading knife for big game hunting.
The Puma White Hunter, introduced in 1956, and was in production for (8) eight years before the introduction of the Puma control number system. This number, a.k.a. Production Code or Date Code was introduced in the 4th Quarter of 1964 to assist PUMA with quality control and product improvement processes.
The White Hunter is the knife that made PUMA famous in the hunting knife market. It also earned them international recognition as a premier maker of quality production knives. This recognition promoted rapid growth in exports. One of there largest markets was the United States. The knife has stunning stag handles. The blade was made from German Pumaster steel. The knife measures 10 1/2" overall with a 5 7/8" blade. The knife also comes with a genuine Puma original leather sheath. The finger guard is made of mirror polished German silver.
