VERY RARE ANTIQUE Carte de Visite Photo of Nice Young African American Male, c.1870DESCRIPTION: Nice, very rare and VERY EARLY antique photo of young African American male. Scans show it all. Such early photos are very scarce, especially CdVs. Obviously the number taken was small. This is no newer than 1870 as CdV format and albums were petering out after that. Wearing a regular suit, but not a fancy one. Looks like he is wearing a round button of some sort on his lapel.
This c...ame with a collection of several early, antique photos of African American subjects. Probably from the same antique album. Some are cabinet photos, identified with photographer names, and all from various towns in Mississippi, including GREENWOOD, MISSISSIPPI photographers. Very few CdV's were in the collection, given their earlier period, just after the Civil War.
This is a great gift for the photo collectors in your family. Very good condition overall. A great looking photo and a particularly rare early CdV photo. Good early, IDENTIFIED photos of Black African American subjects are very hard to find!
