This is a Civil War 1864 Col Mann's patent waist belt plate.Col W.D. Mann patented this buckle in 1864. They were issued to New Jersey troops. This one was found in WinchesterVa. They are generally found in late war sites such as Petersburgand Spotsylvania. This dug example has one hook missing andthe soldier bent the other  hook straight. Not sure for what reason.About 2 3/4 inches in length. A neat dug relic. Found on private property with permission.
